When the rain hits my window…

IN 1997, MISSY ELLIOTT released her debut album Supa Dupa Fly with single and video “The Rain.” The track (which samples Ann Peebles classic “I Can’t Stand the Rain“) was a huge hit, and the trippy video directed by Hype Williams blew some minds as it made the rounds on MTV. But the biggest impact was how Missy’s image and artistry changed our expectations for female rappers. Missy has her own truly unique swag that doesn’t try to fit into any mold. Her fearlessness, to be supa dupa FLY without conforming, is true hip-hop essence. And almost twenty years later, her originality still can’t be stopped.
